MDH eggs ...

We got dante at a pet store about 4 months back. about a week or two ago he started acting weird - very 'feisty' - then he started digging around all over the cage. i didn't think anything of it - i figured he was just acting weird b/c he was in that 'pre-adolescent' phase - hell, i even thought i saw what was two little bulges at the base of his tail that were indicative of him 'coming of age'... One day i noticed that he had gotten very thin and i tried feeding him again - YAY - he's eating... But i also noticed a bulge at the base of his tail - on the top side...
i looked around in the cage today (we were going to change the substrate) and i saw (to my surprise) a bunch of perfect white oval eggs ........
i was so hoping this was a male - i didn't want to have to deal with all of this... Apparently the bulges that i noticed earlier were her eggs forming... I can't believe i didn't recognize the signs... I was too blinded by my belief she was a he... I immediately tossed the eggs - thinking there was no way that they were fertile - looking at the time line now , I'm not so sure that was the case - i feel bad about it but nothing to be done about it now - they're all dead -_-
in any case - my question is if anyone knows what that lump is on the top side of the base of her tail. is it something that will need surgery?
oh yeah, and now she needs a new name........
