Question Re: Getting to know you....

Hey everyone,

My name is Trevor. I live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada..... and it kind of sucks here (the winters are too cold) I have been in Winnipeg for just under 3 months, so I'm hoping the summers are better.

I have had lots of experience caring for my pets, but when I moved I sadly sold and gave away my collection. Now I get to start a whole new one.

I have recently gotten 3 snakes, a carpet python (Havel), an emerald tree boa (Gwen), and a rainbow boa (Isabelle).
Gwen and Havel have settled in nicely, and I've been able to hold them and even hand feed Gwen...... Isabelle however will not calm down at all. She has bit me 3 times, twice drawling blood. She has eaten a hopper, the temps and humidity are bang on, and she has lots of room in her 175 flexarium (got to love Exoterra namebrand!!!!!!) everytime I walk past her enclosure she strikes

I don't want her hurting herself or me...

CAN ANYONE OFFER A WAY TO CALM HER DOWN WITHOUT DRAWLING MORE BLOOD!!!???

Re: Getting to know you....

My name is Mel. I'm 22, living in Gainesville, FL, and I've been a fan of snakes since I was in kindergarten. Some people brought a huge python (or maybe boa... I can't remember), and I was one of maybe three girls that pet it. Ever since then, I've wanted a snake, but my family wouldn't let me have one for one reason or another.

For almost two years (2005-2007) I worked at The Gourmet Rodent now located in Newberry, FL, working with cornsnakes, kingsnakes, hognose, rat snakes, trinket snakes (which were oh so fun). It would've been a dream job if I could've taken care of the snakes how I wanted to, but after seeing too many die for various causes (I'm not going to badmouth the company), I had to leave. I still work with one of the managers there with his private collection of boas, pythons, and various venomous snakes. Some of them make his pythons look like sweathearts.

My best snake-related story involved working with "grow-out" colubrids. I was about to finish servicing a rach full of cornsnakes when, on the last one, I encountered the angriest little snake I've ever seen. She poked her head out of the tank and look at me. Common sense said "MOVE" but I decided to play stare-down (it's easy to do dumb things when you're tired enough, and I was). The snake jumped out and bit me on the eyeball. Not the eyelid, but the eyeBALL. She didn't get me with her teeth luckily, but she DID manage to burst every blood vessel in my eye, giving me a creepy "zombie" eye for about two weeks. That snake will always hold a special place in my heart... and my eye.
