How big..

How big does a male amazon have to be to breed?? I've got a bit black female, and big yellow male, but a friend of mine has a very nice red male that he is willing to loan me, I don't remember exactly how big it is, but I know it's smaller than my male(the pair I have are proven breeders).. I wouldnt mind some nice red babies if his male is big enough. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

To tell u the truth the females size is more important...the female should be around 3-5 yrs of age and at peak weight....the male should be around 1-2yrs and have good weight....the healthier both male and female are and the more weight the better your chances are of haveing healthy babies and not slugs... but im not saying to over feed cuz obesity is a problem too...just make sure the male is sexualy mature and healthy and that should lead to good results... Hope this helps... im not an expert just giving u my 2 cents....

Yeah I knew the fmeale had to be a good size, she's very healthy, and large.. The male belonging to my friend is definately over 2 years old, I believe it's over 3 feet at least, but I don't remember exactly..Im going to see it later today.

Oh,another question, I've never bred a snake before, but do you think it would be better to have the pair I want to breed in the larger enclosure (it's something like 20"X20"Xabout 4 feet tall, or put them in an aquarium thats about 32X16X16?

Introduce the male to the female cuz if u introduce the male to the female the females scent will be everywhere in the cage and the male wont be able to find her.....as dumb as that sounds snakes arnt the brightest creatures...also be sure to introduce the female at differnt times....yet again im not an expert and i havent bred these snakes before but i have had success with this technique breeding kings, gopher snakes, ball pythons before...i could be completely wrong but it should work....another thing if the male amazon is more than 2 yrs old then it should be a lot longer then 3ft....hope this helps....

Yeah, like I said, Im not sure how old it is, I just know it's over 2 (as you said the male should be 1-2 years of age to breed).. I saw the male today, he looks large enough in my opinion..
