i keep mine in wooden vivs. i used to use a heat lamp and heat mat combo but he used to burrow down in the substrtate so i stopped using the mat. i find that the lamp is perfect provided you use a guard and provide a humid hide box as the lamp dries the air. you definately need a thermostat as well. i keep my hot side at 92 and the cool side at 82. hope this helps.
If i where you i would make a wooden cage.Because it keeps the warmt longer insite your cage.And i think snakes feel more save in a wooden cage.I used both lamp and heatpad.
