Blood/Borneo Enclosure Size
What would be a good size of enclosure for a blood? What about a Borneo? I know that bloods can get pretty hefty mind you so can the Borneo's but there is usually anywhere from 1 -2' difference in length no?
Would a 48" x 24" x 16" house an STP/Blood/Borneo?
Thanks for the help guys!

Hey,
That would be more than ample room for an adult STP, and Blood.

I wouldn't say that would be "more than ample", but it is adequate. Mine will be in 6x2 enclosures when they reach adulthood.

Ken, didnt you say 6x3? Lol.
Just yankin your chain.
Like Ken said, thats not AMPLE room, but it is a good size. They do not require huge amounts of space, as they are fairly "lazy", and do not move much. For the average sized blood/borneo, I say its fine.

Hey,
I think that ample is the word of the day.
ample: adj 1: more than enough in size or scope or capacity; copious provisions" [syn: copious, plenteous, plentiful, rich] 3: fairly large; "of ample proportions" [syn: sizable, sizeable]
I don't think that they personally need that much space, anything larger than the original dimensions is a luxury suite. If you find that the blood/stp, would benefit from it, then I would say go for it.

From what i've seen, bloods don't move much unless when being fed of course. At least from the 2 that I have seen. I am hoping to purchase a male sometime down the road of course. I want to know everything that I can before I start housing one.

My bloods dont move much. My male moves maybe once every 12 hrs across the cage(to thermoregulate), the big female has been breeding and only moves every couple days, so hopefully she will ovulate soon, or will have her pre-lay shed. The smaller female moves probably as much or a little less than the male. The male is the most active snake I've got(besides my boa).
Angel, I definetly agree that 4x2 is enough space, but I dont think its ample, and I dont think 6x3 is ample either, but I do think that that is a better size for them, because obviously bigger is better(ok people get your mind out of the gutter, lol). But I do think 4x2 is adequate(adequate being the key word, not preferable, but not bad).

It's not about how much they move. They are a heavy bodied snake that needs room to stretch out or at least curl comfortably.
Try this as an experiment - take your blood out of its enclosure and put it on the floor, but restrict it from just slithering away. You'll notice that when they arc, the width is HUGE. THAT is how you can tell what their comfortable arc is - by how they arc when they are not being forced in by walls. I think you'll find that the width of their comfort zone is more than 2 feet.
Chris, the 6x2 was a misfire - I did mean to type 6x3.

Funny guy!
Ken, I believe both my adults are bigger than your bloods, and my female never utilizes the space available to her. Right now(well a couple hours ago when I threw in the male), she was sitting in a curl, and still had about 8-10 inches to go on both sides of her, and she was sitting in the middle of the cage. Yeah, sometimes she streches out, but she is never restricted by the walls(well I mean lengthwise, even 6x3 is only 6" wider).
Ken, I also add that my bloods have good liberty and have a good sized area to stay cool or stay warm. I heat half of the cage on all cages.
