I've actually been pondering the roof de-icing cable as well, mostly because it's CSA approved.
We're looking into buying a house and i'm being paranoid about insurance because of it. I know it's been discussed to death in the past and the bottom line is some companies will cover you, some won't.
Currently i'm using heat pads for everything but have a Thermostat on the way and i'm soon going to be building a new rack for the many expected leo hatchlings this year
So I suppose my question is, in the event of a fire caused by reptile heating equipment would the CSA approved heat cable still void coverage like the UL but not CSA listed heat tape most likely would?
Ease of use and cost aren't really the issue for me since i'm perfectly capable of wiring the heat tape i'm just concerned about the legalities in the remote event of a fire. Losing your collection would be bad enough. But being on the hook for a few hundred thousand dollars of house and contents would really be a kick in the *ahem*
If you get my meaning.
