activated carbon

A'm I correct that you can reactivate carbon by boiling it.?
I was told that long ago but I've not herd about it since.
If this is true how long does it need to be boiled.

That's what they say, but it's not proven. I think boiling can remove a lot of the nasties but whether or not the carbon is "reactivated", I'm not so sure.
