You don't really find "avatars", you simply find any photo you like and make it small enough to be an avatar.

I make mine like the Predator one I use now. I have made gifs and used them as well. Just need to size the pic to 100 pixels x100 pixels and unfortunately some jpegs don't look very good at that size so may be unusable.

I just make mine with whatever picture I want to use at the moment. Right now I am using a pic of my smallest spotted python, with a backround and lettering to make it funky

what about the fun animated ones I've seen --how do you get those? and how do you shrink them down to size?
...sorry, never done this before.

When you make a gif, you are in control of the time duration for each frame. I have mine at 5 seconds for each frame.

Yea get yourself a .gif making program!!! They are easy to find. For Avatars, just edit any photograph in Adobe Photoshop (or whatever you use) and make it 100 x 100 pixels. You can do so much with PS, it is great!!

The animated ones are gif's. It is a simple process to make , just adding frames. Sort of like stop motion animation. All you need ot some gif animation program like Gif Animator and a sequence of pics. Nothing to it really.
