i have a book on leos... that tells you how to build an incubator... the pyton book also tells you how. and i searched the net....

it the method useing a 10 gallon tank with the eggs in a smaller "critter cage", 3" of water and a aquatic heater a good method...

if so how quickly after they hatch should i take the lizard out... and put him in a sutible cage....

and what can be subsituted other than the 10 gal.... id like to use mine for the houseing... would a sweaterbox work... thanks

The easiest way to make an incubator is to get a styrofoam box and set it up just like the 10 gallon tank. Usually your local pet store has a few fish shipping boxes that they are willing to give away. I always give each pair of eggs their own deli cup of vermiculite, put holes in the side of the deli cups not the lids or condensation builds up, and then put the lids on, label them, and wait You can transfer the babies as soon as they hatch, into sweaterboxes or tanks, on paper towel with a few hides and a shallow water dish. If you use the method of putting all the eggs together then be sure to mark the top of the eggs with felt pen, or the ones that hatch sooner may turn over the eggs killing the embryos in the other eggs.

if i seperated the eggs into there own small critter box or margeine cont how long would the hatchlings be able to stay in the incubator without harmful effects... im just worried that the eggs will hatch while im at work or something..

That's fine. I have often been away when babies have hatched and have never had any problems. I'd say 1-3 days in the incubator wouldn't hurt them at all.
