Fraud (help)

What would be the best course of action, if you think someone has ripped you off? The guys has had my money for a few months now and still, I've recieved nothing from him but a runaround. Has anyone have experience in this?

Hmmm...i guess the first question is...did you have anything in writing..cause if not..you really dont have much of a leg to stand on . Or if your lucky maybe the guy isnt too smart and you can trick him. I once did this to a guy that owed me money...i told him that i went to a lawyer and was in the process of having a legal document made up that would put a lien against his car...and that when he went to renew his license plate sticker he would have to pay that amount up front....i got the money like a week later...but perhaps your buddies are smarter than mine...other than that...if that doesnt work...i can tell you from growing up in an italian house hold that we have another method...it envolves a bag of quick dry cement ....that all i can say about that one

If the money amount is around $100 or less it would probably be more trouble then it's worth to really try and get it back. As Shane said if you don't have anything in writing there won't be much you can do. Good Luck.

If it's a business, you have a little more power on your side. You can contact the Better Business Bureau who will try to persuade this business to make good or be publicly exposed as having fraudulent business practices. They can often take limited legal action as well.

If it's a private breeder who never set up a separate business, there is small claims court, but that is very tough to win unless you have some kind of receipt or something.

Good luck!

If you used a postal money (best method) and bought outside your state contact the FBI, if you used a credit card (IMO 2nd best method) contact the card company and they will tell you what to do, other types of money orders or a personal check contact the issuer or bank, contacting the police or sherrif office will also get you some advise and possible action.

Better Business Bureau is useless unless the person is a member.

Small claims court may be your best method, specialy if they're out of state, they have to come to show up, which may cost them more then just refunding your money or giving you the item in question.

if you used the US Postal Service to send the money you can report the person to them, as using the USPS for fraud has some severe penalties.

If you sent a cheque your canceled cheque is your receit.

I've had the Better Business Bureau recover money for some of my rescue clients, even when the seller wasn't a member. It all depends on just how active the local chapter is, and whether they have attorneys on staff or doing pro bono work. A quick phone call never hurts, worst that can happen is they say, "Sorry, we can't help with that one."
