uvb question

I have a zoomed powersun mercury vapor bulb that I would use if I decide to get a cham if it is ok to use, so...uh...I guess I just asked my question..

are mercury vapour bulbs ok to use with chams? or is the uvb too intense?

I have both types that I am not using right now (mercury vapour and traditional tube style flourescent, both zoomed)

I have one and i find those really strong. How many watts is it? I use it for a leopard gecko and it gets so hot i have to turn it off. It can melt a plastic mesh easily, cause it melted my garbage can once(plastic). I find that a normal light bulb can produce the heat you want for your chameleons, at a 100 watts...sorry i dont know much about flourescent lights, and if you can use a traditional one. Usually people use a repti 5.0

This is really gonna depend on what species you plan on raising and how big your caging is gonna be. In a normal sized set-up I would stay away from such a strong bulb.

A good book to buy to find out what Panthers need in UV is the Panther book that came out a while back. The name slips my mind at the moment. To much artificial UV exposure can cause just as many problems as to little exposure.
