I have a ? for anyone willing to answer

Hi I'm new to this but I have a question for anyone to answer. Last night I bought a new snake. I was told he's a red tail boa. Now I've seen them before and Argyle has the markings of a red tail boa but he lacks the red. Just curious to know if I got misinformed or he is what I was told. Please help!!

Not an expert on reds, but from what I can see it looks like one. I think there are several different species/sub-species, so you never know. There are plenty of people on this site who will be able to tell you more... Congrats on the new addition!

Not a true redtail (Boa constrictor constrictor), but when I lightened it in photoshop it looked like a dark mainland Central American Boa (Boa constrictor imperator) of sorts.

The term 'redtail' is thrown around much too loosely. That is why it is best to avoid using that common name altogether. Originally is was the Bcc that were called 'redtailed boas', but then several decades ago dealers began applying the name to the usually less-flashy looking Bci in an effort to bring in more $$.

I'm in agreement with Linds. My first instinct when I saw the dorsal markings and color was a central american BCI.

Cent Amer boas are awesome, I've got a yearling and she is the sweetest thing. Looks very similar to yours.

Argyle is sweet too. He's really beautiful when my husband and I saw him we couldn't resist buying him. Piad $127.67 but he and I both feel it was well worth it. I'm working on getting a better pic of him so all can see. I'll throw in a pic or 2 of my other 2 babies... my sinaloan milksnake and my ball python
