length or width?

If i were to buy some cages for adult colubrids what would be the recommended size?

24x24x12
or
36x12x12

The max length of the colubrids that would be housed is 5' with most around 4'. Corns, Milks, and some kings is what im talking about here. Would they rather have the length or the width?

The second one, I guess. But why are you limited to those sizes? Niether seems ideal to me.

How is that not ideal?

Almost all breeders I know and talk to keep their stock in racks with tub sizes of 23x16x6. This includes adult corns, adult milks and more. a colubrid that reaches max length of 5' only needs 4 square feet in floor space to live happy and thats a lot more than most people give.

Hell I thought I was giving more room than recommended considering 20gal long is the cage size I see in every care sheet... I cant imaging a adult pueblan or corn in a cage bigger than 36x12x12.

So what size would you recommend? I would never put a colubrid that maxes out at 5' in a 4x2 cage because thats just wasting space if you ask me...
