doors on custom enclosure

i want to build a custom enclosure for my boa and one for my ball. i have heard that some people have two doors on some enclosures, one for feeding and one for handling, cleaning, etc. i assume this is so the snake will only expect food from the food door and wont ususally bite if you reach in from the other door. is this a good method to use? or should i just feed my snakes in an altogether different tank as i have been doing? or does it really matter?

I don't think the two doors would make any difference. I feed all my snakes in their enclosures and have never been bitten reaching in to pick one up. They should know when it's feeding time and you should know by their body language when it's a bad time to reach in.

They also rely on SMELL, and pretty much only on that. Remember, they are deaf, have terrible eyesight, and aren't dogs.. you can't "train" them to expect one thing from one door and one from another. So, if you smell like rodent, you'll get bit. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.

My enclosures have two doors, but this is for safety reasons. Many of my larger snakes have a VERY strong feeding reflex and dart right up to the enclosure when they see you in front of it. I have the second door so I don't leave myself totally open and in a vulnerable postion in some situations. Additionally, it also helps when putting them back in the enclosures, so they don't keep popping out the other side
