basking with a vision cage

I am planning to use a vision cage (36x25x25) for a GTP, however I see a lot of recommendations for radiant heat panels for basking, however the vision cages have those inserts intended for heat lamps

is it ok to use heat lamps for basking purposes with a GTP

it is common sense that it will need to be used in conjunction with a mesh protective barrier as well as a thermostat, but I am wondering if light is an acceptable means of basking heat for a GTP

also: do light fixtures set up like this and the radiant heat panels when used in the vision cages withstand the humidity well?

thanks in advance for your time

Latazyo,

A lot of people are switching over to the heat panels because they are more energy efficient and as well give off a more even heat for the animals. This does not mean that heating via heat bulbs won't work either.. I heat all my cages this way (until I take the plunge and order a bunch of panels) and I have no husbandry issues doing it this way..

A lot of people order the visions in without the heat shroud so they can install a heat panel instead but if yours has the shroud anyways and you are heating them that way all should be fine..

On a side note, I also tried using the ceramic heat emmitters( the ones that give off heat and not light) and found that they got really hot, especially when my cages were stacked and the heat had nowhere to go.. This was even the case when they were used with a dimmer switch..

see, I didn't know they sold them without the lamp shroud....since I haven't actually purchased anything y et, I think I will go with the one without the shroud and use fluorescent lighting for looks anyways and a heat panel for heat....

I am considering boaphile or vision still....boaphiles are slightly more expensive, but he's within driving distance of me, so perhaps I can get a better price

Leighton, I called boaphile on it and he said that the price diff is VERY minimal as he made the cages lightweight with that in mind. It's less than a tank of gas.
