question about cage

alright, i have an 18 gallon rubbermaid which im going to be keeping it in when its younger. but i have a question about the set up inside the cage. a lot of things i read said that these snakes are very inactive, so would this mean that i should have more hides? or i should have more floor space? thanks

They are inactive during the day maybe. Mine sure isnt at night. They do a tonne of exploring at night. 2 hides should be enough, with the water bowl this should take up enough floor space on its own.

well in the cage right now theres one hide that takes up a whole side, and a water dish that is fairly big too. this already takes up kind of a lot of space. is this good though?

the best size for hides is just a touch bigger than the snake itself. When Promise was younger, I had 2 hides, one on each side of the tank ( cool and warm ). They really need to feel something touching them on all sides in order to feel secure, especially when young. Not so much as they age. IMHO.

I think it is hard to say anything for sure, till you get your snake or know the size of it. But generally a hide on the warm side and a hide on the cool side work well.

alright thanks. i wasthinking of doing this. on the cool side, just have a pile of sphagnum moss and spray it a few times a day to keep it moist. for the warm side, there will be a water bowl and an actual hide. do you think that is good?
