AZ Mountain King

This is my male WC pyro..to darn cool these guys are! I never kept any pyros until last year, which one was apparently stolen by an old neighbor I had. I had collected 1.1 pair, as I was planning to breed and use as gift outs...which would help with the collecting a bit here in and around where I collected them...what crap. So...now this guy is now caged in a display with my AZ Black, which should detour future robberies, eh?

The female had a lot of the H-banding which this locallity is known for, this guy has a lot of bright reds and wonderful clean banding but none of the H-banding I was hoping to get. I may have some breeding females available through some other herpers close by....should work out.

Here is another picture of the lil one. These guys make great starter snakes IMO...just as much so as corns and the other common colubrids. I have never seen an agressive pyro, although I am sure there are some out there.

Nearly all of my pyro experiences are those of wild animals. I have only seen a few folks captive specimens. I can find these guys rather easy, given good temps and what not, and a bit of persistance. Last year I seen just over a dozen of the mountain jewels, and have seen one this year already. Lets see how lucky I am armed with a camera...

I didn't notice he had a few aberrant bands on him from the first pic.....Pretty cool!!!

If anybody asks me what kind of King to get, I ALWAYS recommend Pyros, becuase of their temperment. The fact they're beautiful snakes on top of that is icing on the cake!!!
