I haven't had the female since she was a baby, but from what I was told and able to track, she is four years this spring. She is surely one big girl coming in at close to six feet, and quite girthy. She is from a VERY long term established lineage started back in the early 90's, I believe.
I did cool them, but only by cutting the heat at night. Night temps didn't drop much below 70-75°F. After about a week and a half of this, the male was going nuts CONSTANTLY moving. I still kept them separate for a bit after this, but then felt so bad for the poor guy that I opened up both their cages (they are in stacked boaphiles) and he went right up in with the female and curled up and went to sleep. Now, I am really looking forward to snakes coming out of eggs (probably not this year), but the whole live birth thing sure was exciting!
