Pacman Feeding question
Hi! Our pacman frog is doing well! I am really enjoying it. Anyways the frog will not take food from my hand or tongs. He has been here a few weeks already and eats gutloaded crickets I leave for him but I can't give him variety because he refuses to take worms from me, if I just leave the worms, they are gone into the substrate.
Any ideas on how to get him used to taking food from me? Or how I could give him more variety?

well, you can put the worms in some sort of feeding dish that is low enough for him to see them, but high enough to keep them in there.

Well he is only a bit larger than a penny so its hard to find a happy medium with that idea. :P

I would feed him in a seperate container when his is that small. This way you can see everything he has eaten and you don't have to worry about him ingesting his substrate.

You don't want him eating from your fingers... they have big teeth and if they mistake fingers for food when he grows up - you won't enjoy it.

I fed my Pacman fish. He sure did love them. I just put in in a bowl of water and threw the fish in there live. Only do this though if you know the fish are healthy! Some petstores aren't too particular about how they keep there feeder fish.
Also does anyone have pacmans right now. I want another one. My old guy is at the Zoo.

No I don't "want" him eating from my fingers. Gettting my jollies off a pacman eating from my hand is not what I am after. LOL.
But unless he eats off tongs or my fingers the worms easily climb out of containers he can get into and such. Well thanks for the suggestions.

Personally, when mine was tiny, I only gave him gutloaded crix. He always caught and ate them without worries. I also felt that mealies or supers would have been too much for him when he was so small. Only until recently did he begin taking silks and such from tongs. He's now approx. 2 1/4" long and 1 1/2" wide. I still only give hime the occasional meal worm or super.
I personally won't feed feeder fish. I have heard too many times that they are more often than not loaded with parasites. I don't even think that I will give him vertebrates. Only inverts for this little guy.

You do know that pacmans have a big spike in there mouth somewhere and if they bite you it is NOT going to feel good. Pacmans will go after anything that can fit in there mouth so if you're going to hand feed him be careful!

People! This has nothing to do with me WANTING to hand feed. LOL It has nothing to do with me being foolish and getting bitten by a frog. haha cripes.
The point to the question was different methods to get variety into his diet without the prey digging into the substrate or him not being able to get in a dish thats tall enough for the prey to climb out of....hence the feeding with tongs or fingers.
Dani33- I won't be doing feeder fish until I have my own guppies breeding and raising them myself to ensure they are healthy. I also will be feeding mostly inverts

Leviathan- I have a few that I was hoping to hang on to. I will give you 1 or 2 at $25 each if you want them, but I know that's a little steep. They are about 1.5"-2". PM me if you're interested. I'm in the fraser valley too so we could meet somewhere.

I put my small ones in a big rubber maid and put his food in there with him until he eats work all the time. Good luck
