You know you are driving fast when...
You know you are probably driving too fast when the Cops first words when he pulls ya over on Deerfoot Trail (Calgary's freeway) are "Hands in the air, you are under arrest" as his "piece" is clearing leather DOH! Ya its funny now. Wasn't so funny when It happpened. I was all "Don't shoot! It's only my wallet" as the Cop screamed demands like "Keep your hands where we can see em!" Anyhow long story short, didn't get arrested (as orginally promised), truck didn't towed, didn't get charged criminally for dangerous driving (been there, done that DOH!) & tickets weren't issued for excessive speeding, tailgating, unsafe lane changes etc. etc. etc. Cops actual words were "I hope you have a real good lawyer because I'm going to see to it that you & him spend lots of time together in court" As he explained to me that he was going to charge me with every offence he could possibly think of (ya he was having a bad day)Anyhow once the officers calmed down somewhat (the next day actually) I was only charged with "Careless Driving" a $400+ fine & 6 demerits on my license (lose it at 15 & they stay on for 2 full years from conviction date). Anyhow it was enough for the Govt. to send me a threatening letter right away Heh Heh.
Moral of the story: Don't pull over & wait for the Cops to catch up as they will probably be all POed & want to charge you with a bunch of offences or something. Either that or don't drive down Deerfoot going 95 mph. Mark
P.S. Proof that attitude does matter. I was all "Yes Sir, No Sir" etc. & the Cop said thats all that saved me. Little does he know that I was only so polite because I though he might shoot me LOL

And when you're pulled over, ALWAYS keep your hands where they can see them: either on the steering wheel or out the open window. And never reach for anything with out voicing intent first.
Cops everywhere are going to be especially twitchy this week with those two deputies being murdered in the states.
edit:
And show up for court. 80% of traffic charges are dismissed because the officers are too busy to show up

Yness, yeah right! "Breaking the Law, Breaking the Law" LOL Mark
P.S. I'd drive faster, but my trucks governed to 160 KM (or 100 Mph) As soon as I hit that it cuts out DOH! I guess 100mph will just have to do. "Live Fast, Die Free!"

I don't think you could even merge onto Deerfoot until you hit 120 kph. I'm sure there are better things a cop could be doing that pulling over one of the 150000 speeders that go by.
Try living in Edmonton...before photo radar became popular, we had the highest speeding ticket per capita in North America, not because we all speed but because that is all the cops were told to do. It was really weird going to Calgary or Vancouver and seeing all these people speed around will little fear of getting caught...it's not like that in Edmonton.
Funny story...a buddy of mine was pulled over and held a gun point by the cops because his black Japanese sports car matched the description of a wanted car...they told him to get out of the car but the lock was broken and he had to use the window (Dukes of Hazard style)...try telling that to cops when they have their guns pointed at you...

HAHA We have this friend who is totally straight. By that I mean never breaks the law, has a good attitude towards cops, good citizen, in college and works and helps his families farm, etc. But he speeds.
On top of speeding he has a weird problem with fear when he gets pulled over. He gets very scared and can't pull over. He runs. Twice now he has run from the police for no reason as they were only pulling him over for speeding slightly or broken lights. Both times he has had a car chase, then got out of the car and tried to hide in two buildings. Once the cop pulled his gun on him and my friend actually threw up. It's obvious when they check in to him he is no criminal, has no illegal items and is legitamitly scared for some reason. LOL. But it has gotten him in lots of trouble.
Sorry for your fine! That sucks. Out of all the speeders we all wonder why its us that gets pulled over when we do

His bad attitude had nothing to do with the many signs and bumper stickers that adorn the back of your truck?
"snakes for sale phone....."
"try taking my guns away, I'll shoot you in the face"
"I'm a big Alberta redneck"
That was a good story Mark, maybe they should govern your truck at 110 kms/hr.

Don't feel sorry for my fine Marisa I know the law & I can accept it. I should try to keep it under 80 mph anyhow. I'd worry for your friend though & advise he get help before he gets shot or something LOL
Katt I drive fast when safe to do so & only on highways etc. In residential etc. I drive like a senior LOL Last thing I want to do is hurt some kid & ruin both our lives. Also in at times of dusk/dawn in areas where wildlife is a factor. The last thing me & some Bull Moose or a Pheasant wants/needs is for him to be through my windshield & in my lap. Mind you it really sucks to have a tire blow at 150 km I'll tell you what! Remember Kids Speed can kill yep.
Big Mike we too have the dreaded "MultiNova" or photoradar. They are usually not too hard to spot, usually because they are snapping pictures as fast as the camera can take them. It makes it really easy at night when all ya see is brakelights & flashes going LOL They like to use tricks all the time too though. Like put up 70 Km signs for construction when there is none & setup the multiNova there at night when everyones doing 120km+ I wonder how many images one of them things hold. Maybe they have a modem link & just keep downloading them to Headquarters DOH!
Anyone that "drives" & has driven the "Deerfoot 500" knows that it is a road built to "move" with the exceptions of the Calfrobe bridge DOH! I always thought it was the Calfrope bridge actually because it is 3 lanes all tied up just like a calves 3 legs in Calfroping LOL.
Anyhow for those of us who "Need to Speed!" keep it where its meant to be, as for me I have to go slow now, until I get some demerits off my license anyway. ; ) Mark
P.S. I forgot that we also have the Redlight cameras as well, but anyone that thinks they are a bad thing has a problem. Running red ones is bound to "stop ya" in a most unpleasant way.

LMAO at Ryan's post! BTW my bumperstickers don't quite read like Ryan says, but maybe thats the translation in the Cops manual LOL. I'm seriously thinking about losing the gunlaw one though. Principles aren't nessicarily worth getting shot for. Not in reguards to a traffic violation anyhow. Yeah I should govern it to 110 km until I get those demerit points off. Even on the first little stretch of Deerfoot where its only 80 km I'll be doing like 100 km (if I get a ticket going 30 km or more over I lose my license DOH!) & trying to go slower & little old ladies are going by me at 120 km tooting their horns & waving their fists. My how things have changed LOL! I guess I'll just have to be my usual upstanding citizen self for the next while Heh Heh Mark
