recessed eye from retained shed?

Hello folks,

I'm temporarily keeping a baby columbian rainbow boa. There appears to be no eye or even bulge where one should be on one side, and that side has a patch of rough dry almost hard skin that is a dirty brown compared to the rest of the snake that covers the eye and the better part of the side of it's head..

The question is, can this be the result of a bad shed? If so, can the eye be restored after a good shed? If not, any ideas what it could be?

It could be a congenital defect..(since birth) or has happened due to some accident..
Lets see a picture

It's highly unlikely it's been like that from birth. It was noticed for the first time today, and he's been force-fed for two months, so I expect you'd notice a thing like that. I'll try to get a picture up, but it may be a while. My camera is literally in the shop right now.
