This weekend Steve Marks, Dave Smith, Dan Hoops, and myself made the LONG trip up to Ottawa to go looking for mudpuppies in the only spot known in North America, possibly the world (?) where they can be observed eating, breeding, and walking around under the ice in a stream. We met up with a whole bunch of herpers from Ottawa area. Fred Schueler who leads these mudpuppy nights does this every- weekend as a part of a research study! Here are some pics of the mudpuppy night, keep in mind that it was -22 C and I was standing in freezing cold water when these pics were taken! We saw a total of 50 mudpuppies~
The following day (Sun) the four of us went to Little Ray's Reptile Zoo in Ottawa and were toured around by Paul and his staff! We saw some awesome herps and had a great time!
Thanks to all the herpers in the Ottawa area who came out and to Little Ray's I think I speak for steve, dave, dan, and myself when I say the trip was a blast! And it was a great experience for us to not only get a new herp to the life list but to go herping in one of the coldest months of the year!~ Great experience, Thanks everyone who made it happen!
