Chameleon Condo?

I have now three family members who are begging me to buy a Chameleon. Their logic? They don't want to care for one themselves, but they think they're cool. Solution, get the crazy reptile daughter/cousin/niece to get one.

And in all honesty, I have been quite intrigued by Chams for a long time.

I've read all the care sheets and looked at different kinds and such. But my question lies in the housing department.

In theory, this looks like an awesome home for a Cham:

It has the drip system, a place for crickets, it's attractive, has the lighting built in, it seems like a GREAT idea...but is it safe?

I mean, let's forget for a moment that my house has a cat in it...is this safe for the cham to live in permenantly, or should it be used, if ever, for more of a temporary "I took my cham out but I want to type on the computer for a second" thing..

Personally, I would not feel safe using one of them. I do not like the fact that it is not enclosed, I mean who knows maybe the chameleon will fall down, climb up and jump out. That is the last thing I would want.

Ok this is a good idea but very unpractical! Im gonna post some pics of my cages hopfully others can do soo as well, this will give u a idea if what is needed. Mine are screened wood framed enclosures.

Hey...I've seen that set up when I was researching housing a few years back! Interesting, but not so functional........in our climate.
But I'm one to talk. My chams are all free-roamers. And I also have a cat. Setting up a territory is not as easy as saying "here is where you live now", sometimes the cham chooses to be somewhere other than where you place them. Just something I've noticed with my experience.

Here is one of my free-roam set ups. It works great. But it's occupant is a senior fellow who dosen't move around sp much.

hmm very nice, but if wouldnt keep the right temps, and a cham could escape....i dont know how but they will lo, there very smart

I wouldn't trust it only because I know what my Gus went through being a free roamer. At first I thought it was a great idea when my old roomate (gus previous owner) did it....But over a couple years Gus got two very serious wounds and to this day (about three years later) they are STILL healing. He once got down somehow and caught behind a bookshelf and another time he got stuck under the lid in an aquarium.

i rather like that setup but i wa wondering the same thing they could easily jump off or whatever
they do have the drip system and the uv bulb and heat bulb there
as for my apartment it seems to usually be around 80 so its really warm and i dont control the heat lol

i was reading up on the the cham condo but im still skeptical id rather hear from someone who has actually used it b4

if you want your cham to be free get a corner fill it with plants sticks, hang a lamp off the ceiling. you might wanna put some plastic on the ground. But be aware of all the proplems with your cham wondering around and getting itself into bad situations. find a way to keep him in that area, and no cats or other curious animals lol. this condo thing is just two pots with rope bah you could create a mini forest. just my opinion

dream room would be, trees everywhere, vines growing, soil at the bottom and have a few chameleons in one room, you walk in you can feel the breeze of the jungle, the moist humid room. all you have to do is throw in 10000 criekts every week...and get a misting system all around the room, best to make one out side. wow that would be the coolest thing in thw world!

by the look of those condos , they seem like they'd be pretty heavy. Are those clay pots, or plastic pots made to look like the clay ones? How exactly would you secure something with that much weight from the roof? Unless of course you are hanging it in a basement over support beams or something. Seriously though, i don't think your average drywall anchors would do the trick... I don't think i'd trust them anyways. Thanks
