What would happen if i bred
(A) a Snow Cal king to a normal Costal, or
(B) a Snow Cal king to a Costal het albino Cal king? What would the babys be called? (a) het for albino/lavender? (b)50% albino double het? 50% het for albino/lavender
(I dont even think there is such a thing)

I think sombody told me the answer before so my apologdys if youve already answerd this question

First we need to know the genetics behind your Snow Cal. King. The only certainty I know is that most Snow cal kings are produced from melanistic cal kings bred to albino and then these Double-het ''Melanistic/Albino'' are bred to produce Snows (If someone has another combination please share...)

Your A) pairing would yield all 100% Double-Het for snow (melanistic & Albino)

Your B) pairing would yield a clutch of 1/2 Albino Het-melanistic and 1/2 normal looking coastals Double-Het Albino/melanistic.

As for the lavender trait, your snow cal king would have to have been produced from one albino/lavender parent...

As far as I know (someone please correct me if I'm wrong) there is no anerythristic or axanthic cal. kings. Should some of these mutations exist, that would change the snow cal king genetic possibility.

Great question

This wizzard program assumes you are working with recessive genes unless you indicate dominant or co-dominant. I am not sure that melanistic is a simple recessive in cal kings and I cannot determine where the lavender is coming from in your example - is your snow from lavender lineage? I have not been able to get answers to what lavender is or how it is inherited in cal kings. The appearance is like a hypo, in my opinion, but again - not sure and not sure how it would fit in your example.

But assuming snow is albino/melainstic and both are simple recessives, to use the wizzard for your first cross you would do the following:

In step 1 - select two traits because you are working with albino and melanistic - click build query.
In step 2 - type albino in the box, click homozygous under The male and click WT (wild type - normal) under The female. Then type melanistic in the box for gene 2 and click homozygous under The male and WT under The female. Click Ask the Wizard and it will give your results - that a homozygous albino homozygous melanistic by a wild type (which is what the costal is) will give you 100% offspring het for both albino and melanistic (these combined are assumed to make a snow).

not sure if this is what you were looking for - hope it helps,

mary v.

Good point Mary,

Also not sure if the melanistic wild type is simple recessive or just a naturaly occuring phase.
