New Addition! *pics*
Now, I definintely don't want to hear any "good snake" food comments, b/c a) she's my pet and b) if you fed your snakes chinchillas, then you're not a very good herper!
Here's my new little girl! Her name is Tarantula (Tula for short), she's a black velvet chinchilla. I bought her from a fur ranch.
These pics are absolutely horrendous, but since I took them, I take all the blame.

Here is where she lives. She eats lots of hay, chinchilla pellets, and water, plus some goodies like wheat germ, rolled oats and barley. Her cage needs a few more shelves and some more toys.

She's pretty curious and quite friendly for having been a fur ranch chinchilla. She was born Nov 9th, 2003.

She is adorable - love the name. That cage (modified shower stall ??) looks incredible for one tiny chin! How long before you have more??

Although I have never actually looked up a definition, I am fairly certain just by looking at the words that it is a place that farms animals for their pelts.

Exactly as Ryan said. Fur ranchers are folks who raise chinchillas (or other animals) for the fur industry. They're usually pretty nice people and treat their animals quite well, which you need to if you want a good pelt.
When I approached Vanan about getting a chinchilla we made the deal that I would get only one, and NO MORE MAMMALS. So, no pet gerbils, prevost squirrels, etc. Although, a patagonian cavy outside would be ok.
So Tula will be my one and only chinchilla, and yup, her cage is a modified shower stall. If I'm only going to get one, might as well go fancy smanchy! Ok, well the cage is a little bare right now, but I'm already eyeing toys, more dust, more supplements, more shelving.
Thanks for all the compliments guys!
