I never stick the UTH to anything. There is no need. Also if you break the tank or want to move the snake into something else you destroy the heat pad when you try and remove it.

You should use something that is suitable for use on heated surfaces, such as aluminum foil tape, electrical tape, or duct tape. The other stuff will dry out from the heat which brings its own set of problems.

I leave a space between the UTH and the bottom of the enclosure but raising it up with a couple of pieces of 1 X 2. I've found that if you do that you don't need a rheostat, enough heat escapes in the inch of breathing space to just heat the enclosure above to 90 F or so.

Yes this is true but a rheostat goes up as well as down. If your herp is sick and you want to increase the temp with a rheostat you don't need to lower you tank closer to the heat pad or move the pad to the tank or even adjust your substrate. All you do is adjust the rheostat.
