Given the legal status of roaches in Canada, you won't find anyone admitting to owning them, Emily...

I am curious as to why you like the 'pedes so much? They aren't very furry, or cute, or colorful...unlike teddybear spiders, it is so much easier to understand the appeal of T's. Even the less cute species of T have those long elegant legs or colors to make them desirable...
but a 'pede??? (hahahaha, just playing with you.)

I have helped care for the big black ones at the pet store, and they are fascinating...what discourages me is the amount they can EAT!!
Holy smokes, and lots of eating leads to lots of defecating...man, those things are like invertebrate rabbits, in that they produce more volume of crap than they eat! hehehehe... funny animals...

The millipedes are just so... different. I'm not sure why I like them so much but I really find them fascinating and they are so different from other inverts. I've also noticed that they show a few faint signs of personality. Marilyn loves my sister. As soon as my sister picks her up, she'll uncurl and will start walking everywhere and nibbling her while when I hold her, she'll take forever to open up and won't move much. Maybe it's because my sister has warmer hands? I don't know. Meanwhile, Mingus is unbelievably shy but doesn't seem shy with me. Who knows why I like them They're all so different, IMO.

Jeff: My mantis, Osiris, is a realy sweetie pie. Although she never stays still, they also has never really been "mean" to me. She is also made 13 ootheca over the past few months!! lmao.. busy lady!

Oh, and, mantids kinda scare me...
I got chased by one a long time ago. It was a huge five incher, and was right under the footpegs of my motorcycle. I chased it away with a stick, but it kept running back for the footpegs faster than I could get on the bike. Not sure what I thought it would DO to me...but it freaked me out with its persistance. I finally made it back off far enough away to hop on and roar out of there, but it was with the panicked feeling that it was running behind, chasing me....
I caught a baby last year, and popped it into an aquarium, I wanted to keep it, it was so bright green and pretty. I gave it a cricket, and to my horror, ripped off legs and ate the cricket a little bit at a time, while it still lived.
I let it go.
Ummm, have fun with yours. =)

LOL, Dragoon, I think I have seen that movie somewhere: "Motorcycle chick and the Attack of the Giant Praying Mantid"... I think it was a "B" horror movie!LOL

You are right, we will not get to see roaches up here... but remember that millipedes are now technically illegal in Canada... it amazes me that you see them all the time in the pet shops...

Too bad, because I am constantly beeing offered some strange species of millipedes that I never saw in pet shops here...

Nice inverts Emily... I like the mantids, I am always tempted to get some... one of my buddies breeds all kinds or weird species...

Take care

Martin

And here is my "technically illegal" millipede trio. Actually, there are four of them total.

Cheers,
Dave

Ciddian, orchid mantids are gorgeous! If I ever saw one for sale, I would buy it right away without a doubt. If you know anybody who supplies/breeds them, tell me thanks!

Well, I tried to put the pic on here but it'll have to stay in my gallery for now (for some reason my pictures are always too big, haven't quite figured that part out yet...ah well.)
At any rate, it's of my favourite creature of all time, a centipede and in this case a Vietnamese one. I wish I had a hundred!

And lovely inverts everyone!

Ask and you shall receive...I hope this was the pic you wanted added, Shane

Dave that's a beautiful female.

At the moment we have besides all of the arachnids a vinagaroon (Giant), and an african millipede. Plus the hundreds of Hissers and crickets and mealies. I tend to love tarantulas and my husband has a thing for scorpions (which are great too). he also loves centapedes. I am in the search for good breeders / dealers if anyone knows of one.
Thanks all
Rusty
