Second rat.....

Well, it's been 10 days since my first rat post and after a perfect shed, the biggest bowel movement I've seen from a snake (so far), I figured it was time for Cain's next meal.....

So, 8 minutes ago, he took his second rat with the first strike....
:grab:

His mouth is already on the head, so let's see if he can get it down in under an hour this time!

As always, I'll keep you posted!

This time, I'm not so worried about him getting it down!

Done!

In record time! Looks like he learned how to do it the first time...

Now, we'll see the results of the second rat to his growth....

Good luck to everyone else trying to change over to rats!

congrats on your switch. I finally got my female off of mice and onto rats. She's taken 3 and it's feeding time again tonight. She's growing by leaps and bounds. Congrats again!!

well, I will this time....but after his first rat, he hadn't had a bowel movement for a while, and I wasn't sure about how long it would take to digest a 40g rat to begin with!

But as soon as I saw he had shed and had a large BM, I figured there was no time like the present. And when I put him in his feeding tank, he was immediately looking for his dinner!

Next feeding....6 days and counting.

Great. Don't let it bother you, boids take a fairly long time to deficate after a meal. It is normal, and does not happen on any exact timed schedule. It is ok to feed if they have not yet passed feces.

I agree with thegino, most boids are not frequent defecators. Some boids may only defecate every few months. With the exception of arboreal snakes, feeding times should not be dependant upon the snakes defecation times or you will end up underfeeding your snake.
