How about scientific names like pyromelana and elaphe guttata?
The guy I bought my pyro pyros from pronounces it differently than I do.
I think: PIE-ro-MEL-uh-nuh
I think he stresses different syllables.
When I see elaphe guttata, I think:
Ee-LAUGH-uh Goo-TAH-tuh
Elaphe guttata...what a wonderful phrase. Elaphe guttata. Ain't no passin' craze...
Over the phone I asked Kathy Love about "Okeetee" and she pronounces it thusly: Oh-kuh-TEE.

That's how I say it and often hear it as..
These here are not snakes but the latin is fun to try an pronounce when you have little in life to do.. (Mostly the species and ssp name.)
..Caiman crocodilus apaporiensis
..C. latirostris
..Crocodylus cataphractus
..C. novaequineae
And here are a few fun snake family latins..
..Anomalepididae
..Xenopeltidae
..Aniliidae
..Atractaspididae
Just a few spiffy latins I am constently correcting and recorrecting myself on.
