Do you have backup?
With the whole mass blackout in North America, it got me thinking about backup. I've been wanting to get my hands on a generator for years now but have never had the lump sum needed... hopefully it won't be too long though!

Nope. I live in BC. We have oodles of power. Too much in fact. Something to do with all of our running fresh water and keen technology!
Now if we could only figure out how to keep the Easterners out.
But the new generators aren't very expensive. Crappy Tire even sells low-end models now. They seem to get cheaper every year.

Hahaha I thought we were the only ones who called it crappy tire. For the record we have a generator, but we only use it for camping.

Don't have a generator and luckily haven't lived through a power outage of more than a couple of hours since I have my herps. Linving in downtown Montreal has that wonderful benefit, very rare power outages and if they do happen, we're the first ones turned back on hehe
So I don't worry about it too much. Would like to get some heat packs in case of longer outages but I doubt I would ever have to resort to using them.

We have nothing for backup, unless candles count. *LOL* So, if the power went out, we'd be SOL.

I do have backup packs for my computers and my fish tanks, but won't last for more than 12 hrs. Hot room do have emergency lights in case somethin' go wrong when working with the snakes. To keep all the lights, heating devices ....running, a separate generator should fit the job.....

My fridge is on the apartment's backup generator but whenever we have blackouts (very frequent in the winter here) I use heat packs and hot water bottles in or near my enclosures as my own personal low-tech backup.

I think I'm going to buy enough generators to power a small town because, well, I'm paranoid now. Besides, if the utility company ever cuts me off again, I'll just laugh like a madman at them. And when my generators run low, I'll power them up using public parking stalls! HA! I think I just figured out a way to save a fortune!

we have an inverter that plugs into a cigarette lighter and a portable battery pack (powerful enough to boost cars), we've been thinking about buying a generator and yesterday kinda cinches it
