Does anyone know how long or big or whatever a rubbermaid should be to house a full grown ball python?????

I've gotten to really like the ones from Zellers

stores but they are 2 bucks more at Outfitters

Stockwell, don't you find the ones from Zellers are too opaque to see your snakes through? I picked some up a month ago and find that i can't see anything but shadows through the "clear" bottoms, so they hold my son's toys now. Are you speaking of Zellers' Truly brand or another kind?

so far i like the sterilite containers i picked up 4 of them the other day. 3 of them are small with lids and a handle so i can take my leos to the vet. Then i bought a larger one for the snakes for when they go to the vet or whatever. I was suprised on how easy it was for the sodering iron to go through the plastic (for air holes). I havent had a problem with the lids falling off either.

Spikella......I don't need to see through them, and in fact I'd prefer if they were a solid color, so all my racks would look clean and uniform from across the room.
I actually liked to use Van Ness jumbo Kitty litter pans that were solid grey, but they stopped making them with straight sides.
No tray systems are really designed for viewing, and there is nothing worse than seeing the outline of poop or sheds smeared against the side walls
I'm a solid rack system guy with a large collection...I slide the trays out to see and service . I don't really want to see anything through them when they are closed.

i guess it depends if it' s for display. if it is, maybe sterilite isn't teh way to go. or the zellers brand for that matter. as roy said, he's got a huge collection, so for him simplicity is the key. is your enclosure meant for display or for the reliability of the cage? if it's display make a custom one or something, if it's for reliability, and ease of maintenance, go with the plastic.

hmm...
but regardless the animals contained in said containers would need a clear view at some point in the enclosure to maintain their day/night cycle... no?

of course.........I would put them in either a long container, cut part of the top out (big enough for a lamp) put screen there, and there is lamp light. I would also cut a squar part out on one of the sides and attach a piece of plexi glass for viewing inside......just an idea though.

NO, not at all. My snake room is dark most of the time.
Most snakes do not need light, and many are nocturnal anyway, and will hide from the light. I have only one 4 foot fluorescent fixture for my entire room.
I am not a believer in the importance of light cycles for most serpents. Temperature cycles yes, light cycles no.
My racks all have screen tops, so some room light does get in, but very little. I also have no windows
I should point out that my lizards are kept elsewhere, and many of those DO require light with UV, but I have never provided light for any serpents.

Wow...
I made quite the find at Wal-mart today. A 50 gallon, clear plastic Sterilite box. $9. My boa thanks me. I think I may go back for a few more, get my oldest JCP out of her 55 gal tank until I can get the Neodeshas I've been eyeing.
I was stunned. The thing is huge. Yeah, need to find a good way to secure the lid, but wow...

Invictus and I found some nice snap-top transparent Rubbermaids for our adult male Kenyan at Canadian Tire today. I saw a ton of Sterilite products there too, so, that's another store worth checking out.

They only have to be transparent enough to let light in......and I'm in the u.s...But I could probably find a canadian tire when I visit there sometime hopefully!
