... Why would they paint her purple? Hopefully its not toxic. It does look kind of cool though.

They didn't paint her purple, it's her medication.

"Fourteen-year-old female polar bear, named "Pelusa" stands in her cage in the Mendoza Zoo, 1100 kilometers northwest of Buenos Aires, July 18, 2003. Normally white, Pelusa turned violet after veterinarians administered a medicine to treat her for a skin condition. Her veterinarians said her coat should turn normal again within a month. There once was a green polar bear in some zoo because algae grew on it's fur. The fur being clear, it adopted the green tint.

I know of no medication that could possibly have such a side effect. Of course I am no pharmacist but I have studied some nursing and pharmacology and while some drugs do affect skin and pigmentation, none do so in such a dramatic way.

Think of it, if it were true those drug companies would have sold it to us humans in no time! Take a pill to change your hair color, no roots! Bling bling bling!!!

Would love to know if anyone here that works with vets could ask so we would know for sure?
