Question...

I know about snakes and have a few of my own, but I have a few quick questions about Crpet Pyhons , a species I am not familiar with. Speaking about Jungle Carpet Pythons:

Do they get large enough that large rats are not longer a suitable meal for them? (I know it's close)

Ok...This hardly bothers me but I think a potential owner should know... When they are full grown do I have to be aware of how powerful they are? Could they get a firm grip on me IF they wanted too? So basically how is their power compared to a Burm or another large snake?

How big should I expect one to get? 6ft-8ft? And how long to get that big?

Thanks for answering these. Care sheets just dont tell you this kind of stuff, but this is greatly appreciated.

check out mudboys post a couple down from this one... there's some info there about carpets.

For Jungles:
1) rats should do it's whole life

2) they aren't really considered large snakes... (except for some coastals which in rare cases can reach 12-14ft) so they aren't much of a threat, and in noooo way compare to a burm or boa or any of the large snakes.

3)6-8 feet is about normal length... hard to say how long it takes... but I think the norm would be about 2-3 years.

I don't have any jungles myself but I do have a coastal and have done allot of research on them all. Im sure someone will jump in to correct me if I was wrong about anything.

Our male jungle is just over 3 years old, is about 7 feet long and a large rat is a huge meal for him. I don't think he will get much larger so rats will do him his whole life.

Jungles are slim-bodied snakes that are strong, but nowhere near the girth of a boa constrictor that is the same length. They could still wrap around a person's neck and exert enough pressure to compress major vessels (and cause fainting) if the snake felt unstable and was trying to get a grip.

In our experience, they are much more sensitive than boas or than the other carpets - our Irian Jayas and coastal cross are much calmer to be handled. I think the carpet pythons are a great species to own - big enough to be a large, beautiful snake, but not so large that they are too much to handle.

good luck in your search for info,

mary v.
