It is my experience that a snake will typically go in one direction once it has left it's cage, this is often evidenced by what side of the cage it got out of, how it could have gotten down if kept elevated on a table or shelf, and lastly by a trial of destruction if there was anything to knock over on it's way down. Secondly a snake wil seldomly cross an open floor, they will tend to follow the walls and anything piled along them. If the animal has recently been fed it will likely not travel too far, but a hungry colubrid could cover great distances in a relatively short period of time. Colubrids being largely terrestrial once lost will tend to move downwards over time, an animal lost on the second floor of the house will likely end up in the basement if not found first. And when all hope of finding him has passed and you have torn your hous appart a dozen times, then he will randomly appear in the next six months. Like any game of hide and seek, it's no fun if no one is seeking.

My salamander got out about a month ago, I looked all night with no success. I told my girlfriend before I went to bed.
In the morning I was awoken to her yelling at me to come get it while it was walking under the heaterz. At the time we had no furnature so it was easy to spot. A fully furnished house is alot of space to cover. An appartment is almost a lost hope. Good luck still.
check warm places around your room is all I can say right now.
