I was talking to B.W. today about an old snake I had 3 or 4 years ago. It was a Psammophis ssp. sibilans I believe. A very fast and naughty snake down right agressive. I learned a very important lesson with this snake. The importance of emergency lighting. At the time I had no window in my venomous room and power failure had never crossed my mind. I had this snake by the tail and hooked when the power went off for 5 minutes. It seemed like an etternity. A lot of things ran through my mind during the time of the power outage and one of them was I should have installed emergency lighting. I have had emergency lighting ever since. I just thought Iwould share this and see how many of you use emergency lighting.
It is so easy to overlook the smallest things sometimes.
B.W. does this pic bring back memories.

I remember that little psycho. Well, big psycho. I have also had that thought cross my mind. While I have not installed emergency lighting, I do keep a flashlight near the door, near the cages, and right outside the door. My hot room is secure enough that I can toss them a couple feet if need be Of course mine are mostly vipers, not psycho racers with fangs lol

good post,
I had a guy tell me about heating pads failing on him and he lost rainbows. I've got 2 heating pads for good measure, neither are hooked up to a "emergency power source".
I do want a UPS for my computer, and now that you mention it I will hook up a light, or maybe one of the heating pads, when I ever get the thing.
I have a web cam hooked up to a dial up system set to sensor mode and it picks up light changes and pages me on the mobile if the lights go out but I dont have a backup system and I now have to get rid of all my hot snakes so I wont get one but a very good point made and I should have picked it up sooner.
As has been said before you never stop learning!! Thanks Boa
Fortunately I have a big window in my hot room....... Triple screened ofcourse....... And I make it a point not to do any handling after dark....... Emergency lighting is a good thing for hot keepers to think about if there is no window in the hot room............ ETET, I am with you on that one...... But I am sure there are a few species that could be worse......
