Morti's new babies **LOTS of pics**

Here are the 3 snakes Morti brought home from our fantastic camping trip.

First is the 7' Spilotes from Brett (JuliusSqueezer on ReptileHaven):





Next is a near 5' Leioheterodon Madagascariensis, also from Brett:




And last is the 4' Pantherophis Guttatus Guttatus caught in northern Florida while we were out herping:




I already posted 2 of the 3 I brought home. My third one is a Pituophis Catenifer Annectens (yet another from Brett, LOL). I haven't gotten any pics of him yet. They will be soon forthcoming.

Those snakes are beautiful...and big! Sorry if this is a stupid question but what exactly is a Pantherophis Guttatus Guttatus? It looks like an Elaphe guttata guttata(or guttatus) to me.

The taxa Elaphe is no longer valid for North American Elaphe. Since European/Asian Elaphe were recognized first and North American Elaphe really do not resemble those of Europe/Asia, the Genus has been split. Pantherophis is now the proper taxa. Now, since Elaphe is feminine, all sp and ssp are feminine as well. Pantherophis is masculine, so all sp and ssp are changed to reflect such. For example: Elaphe Obsoleta Obsoleta is now Pantherophis Obsoletus Obsoletus.

Hi Andy!

It really depends on the individual. I know the prior owner of this snake very well and I have been wanting him for a couple of years now. He has always been very sweet to me, but the prior owner tells me that his blood loss is going down by 50% with me taking him. ;-)

Most people will tell you that all Spilotes are all evil, but I think that like most other species, it is really a matter of frequent handling, trusting the snake, and letting the snake trust you.

They are quite flighty. Who would have thunk it of an arboreal colubrid? He hasn't struck at anyone yet. I did take some new pictures of him today and he was flaring his neck at me... hehehe

Hehe. I know what you mean. Most people say that chinese king rat snakes(stinking godess) are viscious, but a friend of mine owns a yearling and it is puppy tame. Thanks for filling me in on that one guys! He's really nice looking!
