Are uv lights necessary?

I have a 7 ft female tiger rat snake and i'm in desperate need of some advice, are uv lights necessary and if so can someone recommend me a brand or wattage?

Re: Are uv lights necessary?

Hi,
While UV isn't "necessary" for snakes, there are studies showing it is beneficial for their health. I noticed a difference in my snakes after adding UV for sure. Arcadia is a great brand, and if you go on their website, they have a lighting guide. You can search your species, and it will recommend a UB strength. It will also give details on that based on whether the UV is having to go through a mesh lid or not. There's a great FB group for reptiles lighting as well which goes more in-depth.
