Albino Burmese Python

I need your help. My Burmese python of 9mths WILL NOT FEED! She has fed perfectly well with the previous owner and has been taking large weaner rats. I have tried feeding her out of her viv so she does not associate the opening of her enclosure with food. She “tongues” the air and nudges the rat but will not take it. I have also left the rat in the viv overnight on the off chance that she takes it when she is ready but to no avail. She is now nearly 4 weeks without a meal and I am genuinely concerned. She has recently been treated for mites, could this be the issue? Are there any other techniques I can try to get her to feed? All advice would be thoroughly appreciated! Thanks 👍🏼🐍

Re: Albino Burmese Python

First of all if your handling her in way stop now not eating is one sign that a snake is stressed out so apart from giving her clean water your hand shouldn't be in the viv. Leave her for at least 7 days before you try and feed her again. One trick that works well is super heating the rats head, wait until you've the rat totally defrosted then get some really warm water just under boiling and dip the rats head into it wipe off the excess water and offer it to her in the viv don't lift her out to feed her. Try that and see how she goes

Double check your temps, too. Make sure all heat sources are on thermostats. You'll want a digital thermometer to measure ambient temps, and a temp gun for surface temps. Some temp guns measure both.

If you use any lights, make sure they're on timers to shut off at night, or switch to a CHE.

For your safety, and the comfort of the snake, I also advise feeding in the enclosure. Right now while it's small, it's safe, but once it's an adult moving to feed will become dangerous.
