Hi, here's what I've learned from the forum (I'm pretty new to snakes):
It is a good idea to check the temp on the bottom to ensure it's not too hot for the snake. I don't know if BPs burrow or not. I think in general you measure the top of the substrate to ensure a proper temperature range but you regulate the temperature based on the bottom temperature close to the base.
Anyway, just my advice from what I've seen on the forum. Maybe someone else with more experience will chime in.
