Domestication

I've been thinking, is it possible to domesticate reptiles? Or are they, for some reason, unable to be domesticated? (and yes, I mean domesticate, not tame hahaha) If we started to breed for tameness instead of color would they become at least semi-domesticated?

Mankind has domesticated mammals and birds, but are reptiles just too different?

I've done a little research on the internet, but there doesn't seem to be anything about it, at least that I could find in the three minutes I looked.

Any thoughts on the subject would be appreciated.

Re: Domestication

I don't think the domestication of herps is possible at the moment.

Out of all honesty, I don't know what else to say about this subject.

Re: Domestication

If you have about 10,000-15,000 yrs of selective breeding, then maybe.

Re: Domestication

I figured that it would probably take longer than, say a mammal. Now I just need to start the project and convince the future generations of my family to do it too :P

Somewhat related to this topic, have you heard of the guy who domesticated foxes to study the domestication process? It was a really interesting experiment.
