Owning large pythons alone.

So with me probably living on my own for the next few years with no one around to help me with snakes, and generally the limit of handing large snakes alone being three meters, what can I do as safety precautions when I get a burmese pythona in the handling, cleaning and everyday maintenance? Anyone else here who lives alone with large snakes?

I think I remember seeing some ratio of impending constrictor-induced asphyxiation like for every 8' of snake, you need one person. Not sure if this is 100% accurate, but seems reasonable. I have a 6.5' boa. *If* she wanted to, I'll bet she could hurt me. I am extremely cautious when handling her and never do it when home alone. Not that my wife would try to uncoil her from my neck, but she most likely would dial 911. I'd be dead before first responders showed up, but at least they could corroborate the story of my demise for the life insurance policy...

Shauna0522, No BRB are not lumped in with potentially dangerous constrictors. In fact, I don't believe that my BRBs constrict as strongly as my adult Honduran Milk Snakes. That said, I would ALWAYS exercise caution. I never wrap my snakes around my neck, mainly because if they are feeling a bit grumpy, I'm not interested in getting bitten on the face. You should be just fine. As far as owning any of the giants like Burmese Pythons, Anacondas, Rock Pythons and even large Red Tails can pose a threat if not handled properly. I would never attempt to handle any constrictor over eight feet long without someone there just in case. The really giant snakes are incredibly strong and pose very serious danger if one is not careful. Just my humble opinion. Good luck with your BRB.

What you also need to remember is that your friend must also must be competent with large snakes and not just freeze should something go wrong

Another thing about getting a burm is you never know what size of snake your gonna end end up with on less you buy an adult. Even with a male they can still reach a decent size this is are male albino who's still a good size

My two cents: if you don't have a reliable second handler then getting a snake that woukd require a second handler is a bad idea. There are so many amazing species to choose from, why not get something you can handle on your own throughout the snake's entire life?

I would not get a large snake like a burm if you don't have a second set of hands to help you. The reason is not because I think something will happen, it probably won't, but because it *could* happen and god forbid it did, the media would run stories about it for the next 500 hundred years even though more people would be killed by butter knives each year..

Thanks he's a bit bigger than this now now lol and has turned into a complete Ahole when trying to remove from his viv. But he's fine once he's out

No mate he's pushing around 11ft and is getting a real Ahole to get out of his viv but once he's out he's fine
