Suggestions and Advice?

Okay, so I am reaching out in hopes for advice...and I'm not quite sure where this would go, so I thought this could be a good place...

So, I have taken in a ton of snakes over the years. I really love them. ^.^ Most of the time, however, the animals I receive are from people that haven't cared for them properly...they've been neglected or fed improperly, ect.

Most of the time, I simply get them into an actual enclosure, get them the right food (you'd be surprised what people try to feed snakes...). There's been some moments when I've simply told people I can't take their animal just because I'm not a vet or anything, and there's a lot I can't do.

I took in, however, three snakes recently because of the conditions they were kept in. One, however, alarmed me. The tail is kinked...I'm not sure if it is genetic or if it is an old wound. I forked over some money, and they vet checked the snake out. She's a little darling, however, most of the snakes I take in, once they are healthy, I just turn around and find them homes that are hopefully better than where they came from. The ones I keep I tend to breed.

So, this little darling, I wouldn't feel alright breeding, I think she would have some trouble. According to the vet, however, it doesn't seem to cause her pain, she feeds and passes her food without any issues, and mobility isn't impacted.

Long story short (too late), I can't keep her. My snakes are for breeding. Normally I would attempt to find her a home, however, I'm worried that people will be biased against her because of the deformity. Would anyone on this forum have any ideas on how I should go about searching for a home, or know of any rescues that would be willing to take her on?

I know this is a little strange, but I'm not sure where to go from here, because I've never had this issue. I really want to send pictures, however, this is telling me that I need to resize the file and I don't know how to do that. :\

Open up the picture in MSPaint
Click on Resize
Select the Pixels radio button
Change the Horizontal to 640 and the other will automatically adjust to keep perspective. You are limited to 640x480.
Save the file with a new name
Then post the picture

You can't post until you get to -5- posts, so you'll have to wait until you post some more.

Or, you could upload the picture to a picture site, like Imgur (imgur.com) and then post the link (URL) to the picture.

Depending on the snake, you could find a home quite easily. I recomend meeting with the person (in a public location) and testing them on their knowledge of the specific snake. You won't be 100% certain it will go to a good home, but there is a good chance. You could label it as a minor defect, and lower the price a bit more then the usual.

I usually vet people a lot. And typically I wait for them to ask me questions concerning the snake, because that lets me know that they know what they are doing, or are researching enough to be able to care for the animal. And I don't charge people, unless there is shipping. Then I expect shipping and supplies to be covered. ^.^

Maybe I phrased it wrong. I'm more concerned with people being biased towards her or alarmed because of the deformity. I'm not sure how to phrase or reach out to people about her in particular, because of this oddity....Does that make sense?

I actually saw a ball python being sold at a reptile store locally with a huge kink a bit higher up, and it kinked outwards, much more noticeable. I don't remember the morph exactly but it was fairly rare, and they were asking pretty much close to full price. They said it was a birth defect, but didn't appear to cause any real issues, was feeding without issues.

I like to think there will always be someone out there who will look at it and just fall in love with it regardless of deformities, so I am certain you can find a good home her!

That kink should not impede the snake in any way, even if you were to breed it. (people kind of frown upon it though).

Your best bet is to find a friend or family member who's interested in keeping their first snake and offer this snake to them with the deal if they can't care for it any more then you get first right of refusal for the safe return.

I am glad that kink doesn't seem to bother her, she is quite a beautiful little thing! Has she found a home yet?

I'm not sure I could give any further advice, but I do hope things are going well for you and her!
