Coming back to the hobby

I'm not new to constrictors, I've been a life long fan. Years ago my wife and I had a good size collection but we got in over our heads and gave the whole thing up. This time we are taking things a little slower and we don't plan on having near the number of snakes we had last time. For now I'm just trying to keep up with all the changes in the time since we got out of the hobby.

Re: Coming back to the hobby

Join the club! Apart from the occasional wild caught rat snake or keelback, I haven't kept reptiles for almost 20 years. Back then it was chameleons, but I always wanted a python. Now I have one and feel like a complete newbie, but it's great to be getting back into the hobby again.

Welcome to the forum!

Re: Coming back to the hobby

It's a common thing to get in over your head and have to dial back. Sometimes it's life change or just getting too many. What getting a lot helps you decide is what you really want to keep long term. Get to experience different types.

Welcome to the forum.

Re: Coming back to the hobby

I started small then everyone who didn't want their snake just kinda dropped it in my lap. I ended up with over 15 constrictors in short order. With 3 boys, 2 in diapers and short of work I got in over my head quick. This go around I have a bit of a plan in place. Hopefully it keeps me from making the same mistakes. And I have my own herd of rats breeding snake food so.... Here we go.

Welcome from Down Under. We're in a similar boat, having downsized when we moved to the country. As soon as people know you have reptiles, you get offered all the unwanted ones, lol.
