Snake Identification Please.

Found this guy in my back yard. Live in Eastern Colorado. He shot down what I thought was a ground squirle hole. I grabbed his tail, gently pulled him out and relocated him to a nearby wheat field. He was different than the bull snakes I'm used to seeing. Any ideas what kind of snake? Thank you all!

I don't think you have photo privileges. Try posting a link.

Re: Snake Identification Please.

Nevermind-I opened your image in a separate window. That's a western hognose, commonly kept as pets and pretty cute little snakes

Re: Snake Identification Please.

It's worth noting that they are not legal to keep as pets in Colorado though.

Re: Snake Identification Please.

Hey thanks guys! If I had known they were such precious little snakes I might have kept him around for day or two at least before I set him free, just so the kids could get a little experience learning to appreciate snakes. Oh well, maybe next time.
