That "funny looking guy" was me! Anyways, I live in FL so it's easy to go herpin just about anywhere! Ofcourse, having 4 acres of woods in your backyard helps! It was funny though, I found him right next to my house. It was a very cool snake! It struck at me so many times!!

no, you dont have to keep it!
i dont believe you should take snakes out of the wild, unless you have a good reason to do so, keeping it as a pet is NOT a good reason!

nice racer though!

I did find it ammusing that the next post is a long debate about keeping WC snakes and then we have those saying that you should keep it. As for the specific species, I really don't see a need to keep more than one or 2 racers and then primarily for educational programs. Breeding is not needed for them. They are very common and prolific and there is no market for them. Oddly enough though, a racer is on my list of "keepers" this year for the simple reason that it IS so common and needs to be added to my educational displays and programs. Good job catching the little road runner! Anytime youa re herping and someone walks back covered in mud carrying a bag, you can bet it is a racer in there! LOL

Nice catch!
Wish I could do that with my backyard.... I am trying to "create" some habitat area to attarct some herps to the yard. The "Yard Nazis" in our neighborhood dont like my return to the wild, natural, theme I have going in the side yard though so I may have to continue to go to the herps.

I did not keep him. I let him go like 5 mins after those pics where taken. But it was a very cool catch! I find 1:00PM here is the best time for snakes around my house. I will go again this weekend and see if I can find another!
