Living Gems Breeding Update (September 2016)
The month of September marked the end of the ninth month of breeding at Living Gems. It was again a month of light activity, but good signs for babies.
Our first litter of the season, DuVall-Nephrite (“Litter 2016-A”), continues to grow. They have taken four meals, are just starting their second sheds, and their high orange heritage is beginning to shine. Here is a teaser shot of post-shed Baby #03, one of the litter’s top males:
In Group 8, our orange/red pairing, after a record-shattering 177 days of gestation, Malachite finally delivered her babies! While details will follow in a separate post, here is a quick teaser shot of the Caesarion-Malachite litter (“Litter 2016-B”):
In Group 9, our mystery mash-up pairing, Jasper continues to bask away. She continues to refuse food, but added 120 grams anyway – a great sign for growing babies. Her anticipated due date of October 2 just passed.
In Group 1, our hypo to het hypo pairing, Amber continues to bask away. She also continues to pile on the weight, adding another 120 grams last month. Her anticipated due date remains October 8.
In Group 2, our mixed orange with thick borders pairing, Jadeite continues to bask away. She added 70 grams last month. Her anticipated due date remains October 10.
In Group 6, our mixed orange trio, Aventurine continues to bask away. She continues to gain weight (80 grams last month), and to accept small meals. Her anticipated due date remains October 13.
We have ended breeding for the remaining five girls for this year due to personal reasons.
As always, you may feel free to contact me at any time with questions or concerns.
Thank you for reading,
