What kind of snake.

Came across this pretty good sized snake at my pond in northeast Texas. Haven't seen one this color where the tail faded to black. This was about 5 feet long.

Re: What kind of snake.

It's a rattlesnake, but I'm not 100% on what type. To me it looks to be a Timber or Canebrake rattlesnake. Where are you located? That could also help identifying.

Timber Rattlesnake (Crotalus horridus), venomous. Best to leave these alone, most bites occur when someone attempts to kill or otherwise harass a snake. Timber Rattlesnakes are listed as threatened and protected by the state of Texas, it is illegal to kill or harass them in any way.

Lucky man, you found a Canebrake. One day one will be in my collection!

Re: What kind of snake.

I just caught this scaleless snake on 9/14/2016. It was in a hardwood forest at 1pm and it was about 90 degrees out. HELP!

Re: What kind of snake.

Had some land cleared around the pond. Bout 6 acres of water sitting on a 14 acre tract. Seen a lot of snakes lately. Several copperheads. And an occasional water mocassin. Never seen one of these. Came across it walking into my property, almost stepped on it before I saw the dark line I knew wasn't supposed to be there. Was only a couple feet away before I stopped to put a light on it.
