Musking
My boy Fred can really put out a stench... It's not that bad, but I wouldn't want a cologne made out of it... My question is, do all snakes have this capability?

Re: Musking
To my knowledge, all snakes that I have every handled have the ability to produce musk as a defense mechanism. On some species, the musk smells much worse than others.

Re: Musking
From what I've read there's none worse than the king rat. A couple of my Dominicans have musked on occasion, and my Everglades rat a time or two. Nothing terrible though, even when they actually got some on me. I'm curious/wondering what it actually is and where it comes from though. It's not urates or poop, from what I've seen it's a clear viscous liquid.

I have not see any liquid. Just a very strong odor, kind of like an old hippy! haha...Oh wait maybe it is me! haha...
Right before I got Fred "and I new I was getting him", I went into study mode, like you do; and I read that the Taiwanese Beauty snake had the worse smelling poop of all the snakes... I thought how bad can it be? right? Oh my god! I couldn't clean it up fasts enough... Had to air out the house and everything...
So anyway, I thing I can take a little musking; I was wondering if it will get better as he gets to know me?

Re: Musking
It should definitely ease up with the more comfortable the snake feels. I'd it doesn't feel the need to defend itself then it shouldn't musk.
