Finally got tagged
Took Floyd, the RBB out tonight after giving him time to relax after his dinner friday, and everything was fine. Put him on the carpet to let him stretch out some (something I've done before) and when I went to pick him up, he spun and got me on the little finger.
I barely even noticed since hes still on fuzzy's, didnt even leave a mark (sorry to disappoint for those wanting to see pics). It kinda felt like a cats tongue.
I feel somewhat better now that the first ones out of the way...lol

Re: Finally got tagged
Welcome to the club! The anticipation of being bitten is almost always far worse than the real thing. My first bite was from a baby Savu Python. She actually managed to draw some blood but the sensation was no different than lightly brushing my finger over velcro. I didn't even realize it bit me until I saw the blood

Re: Finally got tagged
I felt silly saying it but I was super relieved to have the first one out of the way too. Now I know exactly how much it doesn't hurt, and how scary it isn't.

Re: Finally got tagged
As a kid, I caught and handled snakes pretty much my whole life. As one would expect, I've been bitten numerous times. I only keep Hondurans now and as a rule they are not at all likely to offer to bite me. That said, I surprized one of my adolescent females a couple of weeks ago and she latched on and chewed her way up my arm. I left her alone for a while until she realized her "error" and released me. It bled a bit more than usual, but there were no teeth left in the bite and it was still tiny pin pricks which went away in a day or so. Nothing to worry about, just clean it well and keep an eye on it for infections of which there were none.

Re: Finally got tagged
The first time I got bit was many years ago. It happened so fast I wasn't sure what happened until the tiny red dots appeared. He got my thumb and went back to his original position in the blink of an eye. I had to remove a few small teeth, but it was no big deal.

Re: Finally got tagged
My first bite was from a baby rosy boa during feeding time. I reached in to remove his hide and he must have smelled the mouse, struck real quick, didn't latch on. Left two tiny scratches, barely bled. A week later my bigger rosy bit my fluffy Pajama pants haha.
All of my bites have been minimal. I'm getting my first bp soon though, which is a bigger snake than I've ever kept before. Honestly I am a bit nervous about what a bite like that will feel like. I'm sure I'll get over it.

Re: Finally got tagged
My first bite was from 3 BPs. Shipment of juvenile came into the store I was working at and I released them from the bag to be separated and displayed. Three of them struck at the same time. It was ever so slightly sting-y, but more amusing than anything.
Sorry you got bitten, and I'm only ever so slightly disappointed not to see some sweet bite gore. :P

I wouldn't worry too much about a BP bite. They are a bigger snake but their teeth are itty bitty even as an adult

Re: Finally got tagged
With helping out in the shop I get tagged on a regular basis, most are from young snakes when I'm rushing to clean and change water bowls. I'm just more careful when working round the bigger animals . Most of the times its just a quick strike, bite and release but then there's always that one that decides your dinner like this little lady

Re: Finally got tagged
It's amazing that in spite of whether they are wild or captive how they retain that instinct to bite. Although there is that occaissional animal that won't.

Re: Finally got tagged
I've got two corns that are usually lovely to handle but when they're hungry they do not distinguish between finger and food. I've got other corns that would never bite, even if you provoked them. Tails got me today (as it's dinner time tomorrow and she's hungry), she left a tooth embedded in my thumb that I had to work to squeeze out, very uncomfortable, but she's ok at least.

Re: Finally got tagged
I got my first bite the other day too! My new carpet python is still very snappy but as he's tiny it's not a huge deal. I just take care not to get bit in the face.
Only snakes I'd have that I'd be a bit concerned about being bit by would be the hognose. But unless I seriously screw up while feeding I'm not worried.
I've gotten some pretty decent dog bites this past year (nice scars heh) so after those the little snake bites are pretty much nothing.

Re: Finally got tagged
I have yet to be bitten by my BP Monty. I doubt it will ever happen because he won't eat in front of people.

Re: Finally got tagged
I haven't yet gotten bitten but I've only had one snake years ago and I'm getting a hognose in a couple of weeks I'm not quite as nervous about it right now. I figure if I've gotten bitten, smashed, stepped on, and dumped by horses, a little snake isn't such a worry. Right?
