Well let me tell you about my 'wonderful' day -_-

So thought i'd share this with everyone just as an experience... But today, I found out that Rex had mites.. So I went to the reptile shop and sure enough they found more! So they gave me free preventamite and reptile spray, luckly, but its taken 4 hours to do all this ;-; I had to take out both of my snakes.. Then cleaning their cages was awful, got dirt all over the floor... ugh. All the substrate i bought for my hoggie now went to waste as i had to buy more, then Rex just got paper towels until his mites are gone.. Then It took an hour trying to get all the dirt out of both cages, then sprayed preventamite in both.. Then i tried to spray down Rex with reptile spray, and he was nice about it.. I then tried to pick them out from under his chin, but he was so stubborn I just couldnt get him to stay still.. I ended up spraying reptile spray on my finger then rubbing his chin.. Then after all that i had to get their stuff back in the cages. Well, only the hoggies stuff. Rex just got paper towels and a water dish for now. But now his logs and hide are taking forever to get the preventamite smell off of them, so i cant put them in until its gone... I ended up soaking all his other decorations completely underwater in hopes of killing all the mites. Ill also be putting preventamite on those tomorrow. Then after its all said and done, i put Rex back in his cage, and he goes straight for the water.. So i guess i didnt get all of em.. Ugh, any advice?

Well that sucks mate, mites are horrible to get rid of. This is one of the reasons quarantine is important, your new snakes would have a lot less chance t have been infected (if it even is) if you kept them in separate rooms. There was good advice given in your other topic, so i will refrain from repeating what has already been said. However i will repeat this, as i find it very scary... Remove the water when you're treating with insecticides! It will wash of their body and it can get ingested and cause all kinds of problems. Pets have been lost this way. A snake can go without water 48h Easily.. wait at least this long.

Also dont forget to treat again in two to three weeks to get any eggs that might hatch or you will get reinfested. Ive always sprayed the outside of the cages as well to keep the little critters from crawling to the next cage.
Mites suck. Ive had two infestations over the many years both from bad petstores with infested animals.
